LAST YEAR — Woodward-Granger rolled up 550 yards of offense in posting a 48-0 win in Corning. The Hawks skinned the Timberwolves with 391 yards and five touchdowns on 49 carries while striking for two scores and 159 yards passing. Tanner Vermaas had one TD and 115 yards on nine runs.
Southwest Valley freshman quarterback Chance Cobb was 4-of-8 for 30 yards and was intercepted once, with the team gaining 110 yards on 25 rushes.
ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES — Southwest Valley opened with a 15-0 shutout of host Clarinda Academy before being bested by visiting Bedford, 35-23. Losses of 35-0 in Panora and of 55-0 to visiting Underwood have followed.
Cobb returns at quarterback and is 17-44-8 for 223 yards and two TDs. Jace Petersen (7-114, 2 TDs) and Addison Bull (5-75) are the lead receivers.
The team has 619 rushing yards on 100 carries, with Cobb (37-328, 3 TDs), Aiden Gaule (23-120) and Jerad Shires (13-94) the main threats.
ABOUT THE HAWKS — W-G topped M-SM, 8-0, in week one before being handed a 42-6 loss at Madrid and an 8-2 setback by host Interstate-35. Panorama rallied from an early 13-0 deficit to top the host Hawks, 47-13, last Friday.
Brendan Bird is 9-30-2 for 82 yards through the air, with Race Brant 2-2-0 for 11 yards. Johnnie Morgan (2-42) leads the squad in receiving yardage, with Brant (4-17) the only player with more than two receptions.
W-G has rushed 160 times for 400 yards and three TDs, with Vermaas (89-282, 2 TDs) the chief weapon on the ground.
Morgan (25), Austin Scharlau (24.5) and Josh Saak (21) lead the defense, who, despite having no interceptions, has recovered nine fumbles from the opposition.
