Our community has always pulled together and been supportive in times of crisis, and this continues to be true two months after the shooting at Perry High School.

As women educators, the members of the Nu Alpha Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International wanted to help those in our education family to deal with the tragic school events of January.

At our March 2 chapter meeting, we assembled blue cellophane gift bags containing a note with a Perry Strong gel pen. The heartfelt notes featured a photo of a heart from nature
and a quote on the front along with a supportive message on the back. These gift bags were delivered to nearly 375 staff members and school board members at the Perry and St. Patrick schools before spring break.

It can truly be said, “Kindness comes in many forms, but always from the heart,” and “If you want to know someone’s mind, listen to their words. If you want to know their heart, watch their actions.”

Many groups wore their hearts on their sleeves with their actions Jan. 4 and after. Because so many people stepped up in so many ways to support and care for others, our chapter also gave Perry Strong gel pens in thanks to the Perry Police Department, Perry Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders, Perry city employees, Perry Public Library staff, Dallas County EMS, McCreary Community Building staff, Acorns and Oaks Christian Academy staff and the Presby Childcare staff.

Our heartfelt hope is that we continue to be kind and gentle with ourselves and others. The Nu Alpha Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a society of women educators who teach and/or live in Dallas County.
