GRINNELL — Alyssa Kruger, Madi Fear, and Cierra DeHoet will represent Perry, Panorama, and Woodward-Granger, respectively, May 29-30 in the Class 3A, 2A, and 1A Girls State Golf Tournaments.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Perry senior Kruger, who was stopped two strokes shy of advancing to the final tourney last year, fired a 42-46–88 at Oakland Acres outside Grinnell Monday to grab the seventh of the eight spots reserved for individual qualifiers. She will play in the 3A state tourney at Coldwater Links in Ames.

Fear will have the advantage of playing on her home course in the state tourney, as the 2A event will be hosted by Lake Panorama National. The Panther senior earned the home course date with a fourth-place 95 at 5×80 in Menlo.

DeHoet will be the first Hawk girl to compete at the state tourney in many years. The W-G junior carded a 50-46–96 at the tough Atlantic Country Club to grab the eighth and final spot. The 1A state meet will be held at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown, which is hosting the boys state tourney Thursday and Friday (Panorama’s Logan Shackelford is a qualifier).

W-G senior Aubrey Mescher was also in action for the Hawks Monday and finished with a 65-67–132. The pair were playing as individuals, as the Hawks had not advanced as a team.

Griswold (387) and Woodbury Central (424) advanced as teams from Atlantic, with Sally Gallagher of Woodbury Central the overall medalist with an 82.

Fear was also playing as an individual at the regional final, with Ogden’s Maranda Wheelock the top medalist after shooting 82. Kuemper Catholic (375) and Roland-Story (403) advanced as teams from the 5×80 course.

Unlike the others, Kruger was playing with her full team, as 3A has only one round of postseason play.

Grinnell (327) and Gilbert (333) claimed the two team qualifying spots, with Iowa City Liberty third at 386 and Perry fourth at 408. South Tama (412), Ballard (413), Benton Community (417), Nevada (418), Bondurant-Farrar (419), North Polk (447), Clear Creek-Amana (450) and Iowa Falls-Alden (461) completed the 12-team field.

Britta Snyder of Gilbert was the low scorer with a 69. So dominant were the two Tiger teams that Grinnell posted four individual qualifiers and Gilbert three, with Kruger claiming the other slot.

Sophomore Molly Lutmer has a 49-48–97 for Perry, with senior Hannah Roberts shooting a 51-57–108 and junior Delaney Eiteman a 52-63–115. Senior Skylar Cunningham had a 62-54–116, but the score was not used for the team total.
