Perry shortstop Jo Diw fires to first baseman Maddie West to retire a Madrid batter at the W-G Classic June 11. The duo had Perry's only two hits against top-ranked Winterset Monday.

WINTERSET — Considered by many the most talented and well-rounded team in Class 4A, top-ranked Winterset had little trouble with visiting Perry Monday, belting 15 hits en route to a 10-0 win in six innings.

The Huskies (22-5, 9-1) scored once in the first, twice in the second and once more in the third inning to grab a 4-0 lead. Three runs in the fourth and three in the sixth ended the game early.

Winterset has now won 16 consecutive games, the last seven of which have been by shutout.

Perry (14-9, 2-7) received singles from Jo Diw and Maddie West but could muster no other offense.

Playing without Emma Olejniczak, the Jayettes turned to Sid Vancil in the ring, who had the unpleasant task of facing one of the most potent offenses in the state. She was touched for 10 runs (seven earned) on 15 hits and five walks in 5.2 innings. Vancil finished with one strikeout.

Perry hosts Clarke tonight at the PAC for a non-conference battle and will visit Carroll Wednesday and Boone Thursday before playing in the Decorah Tournament Saturday.
