Toreadors dodge Jayettes in five sets

The Perry volleyball team took host Boone to five sets Tuesday, but came up just short of claiming the win.

BOONE — The Perry volleyball team took an opponent to five full sets for the first time since 2016 Tuesday but were unable to escape with the win over host Boone, who prevailed, 3-2.

Perry (0-8, 0-2) won the first set, 25-20, but then dropped a 25-7 second set. The Jayettes bounced back to claim the third set with a 25-22 win, but the Toreadors flipped the score to win the fourth set and force a tiebreaker. Perry played well, but Boone escaped with a 15-7 win in the fifth and the Raccoon River Conference match win.

Kacy Nevitt set new personal marks for Perry in the loss by coming away with 19 kills and 16 digs. She blocked 2.5 shots at the net and served 9-of-12 as well.

Quinn Whiton had 30 assists to also establish a new personal standard. The senior added four digs and was 11-of-11 behind the serving line.

Peyton Tunink had six kills for the Jayettes, with Jayna Kenney adding five, Ashley Cerna four and Laine Fish two. Kenney had two assists, Fish one and both Ashley and Jenisis Cerna one apiece. Fish provided one block while Kenney had an assisted block and Addison Huntington tallied five digs.

Ashley Cerna was 17-of-19 with two aces while serving, with Tunink 12-14-1 and Kenney 8-8-2 while Jenisis Cerna was 11-of-11.

Perry returns to action Tuesday when they host RRC opponent Carlisle.
