I heard the owl call my name, but what is the owl's name?

"The screech owl is stable, comfortable and his condition is being closely monitored to ensure he receives the best care possible while he heals," the SOAR statement said. "His eye is okay, just still recovering."

It appears so many owls are being conked on the head by passing motorists around Iowa that it is hard to keep the survivors straight. If 3,425 deer are killed daily by motorized vehicles in the U.S., as recent U.S. Department of Transportation figures prove, then it is no surprise that injured owls can also be tricky to track.

Shortly after publication of the most recent update on the welfare of the screech rescued Tuesday night in Perry, an eagle-eyed reader of ThePerryNews.com from Breda, Elizabeth Partridge Blessington, noted the previous report included pictures of a barred owl and not of the Perry screech owl.

Further inquiry has cleared up the matter, and a statement was issued Monday night by the Save Our Avian Resources (SOAR) caregivers on the condition of the Perry owl:

“The screech owl is stable, comfortable and his condition is being closely monitored to ensure he receives the best care possible while he heals,” the statement said. “His eye is okay, just still recovering.”

Fans of the injured barred owl named her Holly, but Perry’s screecher creature has yet to receive a name. Readers of ThePerryNews.com are urged to suggest a name for the little survivor.
