David Hung Le, 25, of Perry was arrested about 10 p.m. Friday on charges of possession with intent to deliver, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, unlawful possession of prescription drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Friday night’s arrest of David Hung Le, 25, of Perry at a house at 2514 First Ave. in Perry capped an investigation by the Perry Police Department dating from 2016.

A statement issued Saturday afternoon by Perry Police Department Sgt. Matt Aswegan outlined the course of the investigation leading to Le’s arrest on charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession with intent to deliver schedule two, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, unlawful possession of prescription drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Law enforcement arrived about 9 p.m. at the Perry residence “where Le was reportedly hiding,” Aswegan said. “The residents of the home were cooperative and admitted Le was hiding in the attic.”

Le resisted exiting the house for most of an hour, but shortly before 10 p.m. “officers were able to get Le to exit the home and surrender, resulting in a peaceful resolution,” Aswegan’s statement said.

The Perry Police Department first sought to arrest Le last March on a warrant for probation violation stemming from a 2016 conviction for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.

Le was not located in March, “but the search warrant resulted in numerous additional arrest warrants issued for Le.” Those warrants were executed Friday night along with the county warrant for probation violation.

Le is currently held in the Dallas County Jail pending an initial appearance.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office assisted in Friday night’s arrest of Le. The Perry Police Department was assisted in the March investigation by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol.

“The Perry Police Department would like to thank the Perry Crime Stoppers, the Dallas County Sheriff’s office and all citizens who provided information that assisted with this case,” Aswegan said.
