UPDATE: PVFD mops up after four-hour firefighting job

Sundown found the Perry Volunteer Fire Department mopping up their operations at the house fire at 1624 Sixth St. in Perry Thursday.

An unconfirmed report said a dog was lost in the fire that destroyed the home at 1624 Sixth St. in Perry Thursday afternoon.

All other occupants escaped without injury, according to firefighters.

The fire was first reported at 4:08 p.m., according to the Perry Police Department, and firefighters wrapped up their work and returned to quarters about 8 p.m.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.

The one-story frame house was built in 1916 and is owned by Nadjy A. Mikesell, according to county records.

Sarah, the nextdoor neighbor to the south at 1620 Sixth St., said her home was not damaged by the flames, but it home filled with smoke. Sarah said she works at a hotel in Des Moines and will stay there with her animals for a few nights while her house ventilates.

The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders and Dallas County EMS also responded to the afternoon incident.
