LAMONI — Sid Vancil was a girl without a school Friday, as she competed “unattached” at the Jenner Indoor Meet at Graceland University.
Vancil was the lone Perry athlete wishing to attend the meet, and while her participation was allowed, the district did not permit any Perry coach to take the day away from classes to attend with her.
The senior was taken by family members to the meet, where — as she had no coach — she ran without a Perry uniform and as an “unattached” competitor in the all-class meet.
While that meant her placings were not tabulated, her 2 minute, 35 second 800 would have won the 25-member event by nearly four full seconds. She also competed in the 200, where her 30.22 clocking would have placed eighth in a field of 58.
Perry will begin their outdoor season Thursday when they host the Davis Family Coed Relays at Kaufman Track. The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m.
