Members of the Pete VanKirk family were honored with a plaque and public recognition Oct. 12 at the official dedication of the first phase of the Dewey Field Renovation project.

At halftime of Perry’s game with Boone, five members of the family were saluted for their generous philanthropy toward the Perry school district and the community at large.

A memorial gift of $350,000 in the name of Pete VanKirk, after who the new plaza has deservedly been named, jump started the multi-phase project. They have added additional gifts to spark continued contributions, raising their total gifts to over $400k.

Three business and others made donations of $25,000, there were four gifts of $10,000 and three offerings of $5,000 each made. A total of 42 $1,000 contributions have been received, with 166 donors offering $250 apiece, which will give each a brick on the forthcoming donor wall.
