Three members of Perry’s VFW Post 2060 paid honor to local military veterans this week by paying a visit to the 42 veterans living in Perry’s four long-term care facilities.

VFW Post 2060 Commander Ron Leber and fellow VFW members Mahlon Conaway and Dick Shoesmith visited the vets in the four Perry nursing homes Dec. 16 and presented them with seasonal fruit baskets.

“We owe them our gratitude for serving this great nation,” Leber said. “There were great stories and great times shared with the members and veterans.”

There are 1,176 U.S. veterans buried in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, and 955 of them served in overseas wars or conflicts, including veterans of World War I (317 buried in Violet Hill), World War II (497), Korea (111), Vietnam (26) and the Persian Gulf war (4).
