Perry faced four foes Saturday at the AC/GC Tournament.

JEFFERSON — The Perry freshmen football improved improved their record to 4-3 overall with a 62-34 thumping of host Greene County Friday.

The two varsity teams played later in the 84th edition of the “Cowbell” game, but Perry frosh coach Matt Hardy — who sent along the videos shown here — said his squads have for several years referred, in jest, to their contest with Greene County as the “Calfbell” game.

Blocks from linemen Jace Johnson (60) and Mike Echeverria (78) and from wide receiver Jered Narber (15) clear the way for quarterback Kaleb Olejniczak (13) to trot untouched into the end zone from three yards out.

Rony Reyes (68) introduces himself to a Ram ball carrier in emphatic fashion.

Olejniczak hits Connor Kenyon (32) with a short pass. Kenyon turns up the sideline, makes one man miss, receives some excellent downfield blocking, and races 58 yards for a score.

Justin Stammer (24) takes a pitch from Olejniczak (13), wins the sprint to the corner, and races down the sideline for a 38-yard touchdown.

Narber (15) fights off a block, dashes into the backfield, and pulls a Ram runner down for a three-yard loss.

Johnson (60) and Echeverria (78) come from either side to sack the Ram quarterback.

Olejniczak rolls to his left and hits Kenyon (32) in stride for what turns into a 28-yard gain.

Showing signs of Steve Young (who? the freshmen ask …) fellow southpaw Olejniczak eludes numerous would-be tacklers and dances into the end zone on a 10-yard scoring scramble.

Showing shades of his father’s playing days at Iowa, Olejniczak (13) intercepts an overthrown Ram aerial and returns his theft 15 yards.

Solid blocking up front, and in particular along the left side of the line, allows Stammer (24) to bounce outside and win a 52-yard sprint to the end zone for another Bluejay touchdown.

Narber (15) breaks into the Greene County backfield for a sack and a loss of 10 yards.

The Perry offensive line hopes a huge hole and Stammer runs through it, racing almost untouched up the middle for a 16-yard touchdown.

Olejniczak (13) lofts a perfectly-placed pass to Stammer in the right flat. Stammer then turns up the field, cuts inside of Natalie Martinez — who shields a Ram defender on the play — and sprints 30 yards for six Bluejay points.

The Perry freshmen return to action Friday when they host Webster City at Dewey Field. Kick off is at 4:45 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
