Perry linebacker Mark Campos sacks North Polk quarterback Max Karpinske in the second quarter of their non-district meeting in Alleman Friday.

ALLEMAN — North Polk blanked Perry, 24-0, in their non-district meeting last Friday, but there were several good plays turned in by Bluejay players, as seen below. Thanks go to Perry assistant coach Matt Hardy for the clips.

Linebacker Eli Saemisch (27) and defensive end Solomon Pierce (83) combine to stop Comet quarterback Max Karpinske for no gain on this third down play.

Ryan Rathje finds Taviar Lucas open on the wing. Lucas makes a move, slips past the first two would-be tacklers, and heads downfield for a gain of 16 yards.

In the play shown immediately above, Taviar Lucas was able to dodge the first defender on the scene to turn a short pass into a big gain. On this play, Perry senior defensive back Ivan Garcia makes an excellent open-field tackle to limit Matt Cox to a gain of only two yards.

Bluejay linebacker Mark Campos runs free on an inside blitz to sack Karpinske for a nine-yard yard on third-and-goal from the six-yard line. The sack forced the Comets to settle for a field goal.

Rathje finds a streaking tight end Marcus Meri over the middle for a gain of 19. Rathje has thrown for 208 yards in two games, with Lucas catching 13 passes for 110 yards and Meri five for 57 yards so far this season.

Bluejay linebacker Saemisch (27) flushes Karpinske from the pocket. Fellow linebacker Campos (28) joins the pursuit, and the pair thump the Comet signal caller in front of the North Polk bench for a loss of six yards.

Defensive tackle Joe Olvera squashes Karpinske for a loss of two yards. The 100-pound difference between the two took a toll, as Karpinske sat out the final seven minutes of the first half after this play.

Perry will host Gilbert Friday at Dewey Field at 7:30 p.m. in the final non-district game of the season for the Bluejays. Perry will open Class 3A District 2 play September 18 with a trip to Boone.
