WOODWARD — Expectations are high at Woodward-Granger for the upcoming volleyball season, but first things first: Camp.

Hawks and future Hawks both held camp at the W-G gym Monday-Thursday this week, with the older girls holding forth in the morning, then helping out when youngsters in grades 4-8 entered the gym at 11:30 a.m. each day.

Meg Jackson, who is entering her 15th year at the helm of W-G, had 22 players in grades 9-12 and another 37 in grades 4-8 compete in the camp.

The W-G varsity was an impressive 29-9 last season, with their regional semifinal loss to No. 7 Grundy Center their only loss to a school their size (2A) during the season. The Hawks were topped by three 3A schools, two in 4A and three of 5A size.

The Hawks have dominated the West Central Conference, winning four of the last five league titles while finishing 40-2 in WCC play since 2011. They have lost one set in the conference over the past two years, and return all six starters this season.

Official practices for all Fall sports begin Monday. ThePerryNews.com will have full previews of all W-G sports.
