GUTHRIE CENTER — Woodward-Granger posted a 3-0 WCAC sweep of AC/GC Tuesday, strolling to the sweep behind scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-19.

“I guess I have to say I am happy with how we served, considering we had 16 aces,” W-G head coach Meg Jackson said. “I thought we came in and went about our business, made sure we played our kind of game and then just let things take care of themselves.”

W-G improved to 14-10 overall and 4-1 in league play while AC/GC fell to 14-7 and 3-3.

The Hawks were a combined 3-5 in Saturday tourneys Sept. 9 and 16, and dropped a 3-0 WCAC to Des Moines Christian between the two weekend groupings. Nine of the 10 team losses are to schools of 3A, 4A or 5A classification.

“I’m OK with where we are at as we work through some things and make some changes,” Jackson said. “We have gone to a 5-1 rotation from a 6-2 and that has taken a little getting used to, but we are handling it fine.”

The Woodward-Granger netters will end three weeks of road matches when they host Panorama Tuesday.

“One change is that we don’t have Alyssa Bice setting anymore,” she added. “This had absolutely nothing to do with her setting, which she was doing just fine. We just needed to see better results from our outside hitters, who were swinging very inefficiently, and she (Bice) has really firmed that up. She never complained, never questioned me why I was making the move, and has just stepped up and made an impact right away.”

Bice drilled 11 kills on 20 attempts Tuesday, an impressive clip. She added two assists, made seven digs and served 10-of-13 with two aces.

Julie Pitman had seven kills, Alissa Smeltzer six, Anna Tague five, Ashley Gales four and Emma Drake two, with Pitman making a solo block. Drake tallied 29 assists, with Kaycee Major making 13 digs and Marissa Pasker seven. Drake had five digs and Tague four, with Ashlyn Soelberg providing three digs, Smeltzer and Katelyn Bandstra two each and Gales one.

Major was 13-13-5 serving and Drake 13-14-4, with Bandstra 10-10-2, Soelberg 9-10-2, Pitman 2-5-1 and Tague 8-of-9.

The Chargers received eight kills and 11-11-2 serving from MaKayle Hoing, with Savana Fuller and Genevieve Hoover making 13 digs apiece. Fuller was 10-13-3 behind the line and Hoover 9-10-2 to lead the hosts.

W-G will host Panorama Tuesday before playing Oct. 5 in the Perry Invitational.
