W-G baseball breaks away from visiting AC/GC

GRANGER — Woodward-Granger used a four-run fourth inning to crack open a 3-3 contest, then tacked on six additional tallies in the sixth to claim a 13-3 win over visiting AC/GC in WCAC baseball Thursday.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Matt Buch started for W-G (2-1, 1-1) and tossed three innings. He yielded three runs (none were earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out six.

Jay Dorenkamp picked up the win in three innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits and sat down seven batters on strikes.

Cole Theisen had a double, a triple and three RBIs while scoring twice for the Hawks, with Bryce Achenbach 2-for-3 with two runs, two stolen bases and a RBI while Reese Jamison doubled and had a RBI, a run and a steal.

Buch doubled twice, driving in two runs while scoring once himself, with Brandon Worley 2-for-3 with two runs, two thefts and a RBI. Joe Rhodes added the remaining hit, run and RBI.

AC/GC was led by Caden Wardyn, who had two singles and a double. Owen Hansen was 2-for-3, with Quenton Spack hit a double.

Logan Brinks yielded seven runs on five hits and four walks in three innings in being assessed the loss. He finished with two strikeouts.

Spack allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits in two frames of work, with Lucas Marsch yielding one run while recording two outs.

W-G visits Madrid Tuesday, then plays at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Principal Park in Des Moines, with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont the opponent.
