GRANGER — Woodward-Granger used strong pitching and a four-run second inning to post a 4-3 win over visiting Madrid in WCAC baseball Tuesday, one day after suffering a 2-1 conference loss at Ogden.

Madrid (18-6, 15-4) scored single runs (all unearned) in the second, third and fifth innings, but could not overcome the four tallies posted by W-G (17-5, 15-4) in the second frame Tuesday.

Alex Bice went 6-1/3 innings on the hill for the win, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out three. Bryce Achenbach entered with one out and a runner of first in the top of the seventh, but earned the save when third baseman Joe Rhodes snared a line drive and fired across the diamond in time to first baseman Brandon Worley for a game-ending double play.

Worley, Achenbach, Jack Grell and Tate Lettow had base hits for the Hawks, with Reese Jamison smacking a double and driving in two runs. Lettow added a RBI, with Achenbach, Grell, Worley and Jay Dorenkamp each scoring once.

Braden Gibbons went six innings for the Tigers, allowing four runs on three walks and five hits while striking out two.

Logan Wicker and Kody Carlson had RBIs for Madrid, with Luke Owensby, C.J. Dean and Jacob Loew scoring.

W-G led, 1-0, after two frames at Ogden to start the week, but the Bulldogs (15-9, 13-6) plated two runs in the third to grab a 2-1 lead, and neither team was able to score after that, leaving the teams with a season-split.

Worth Henry allowed two runs on five hits and a walk in four innings of work. Dorenkamp walked one in two frames of relief.

Henry, who struck out five, hit a double and a single, with Worley adding a RBI-double. Hunter Pifer and Trevor Simmons also had hits for the Hawks.

Dylan Elbert tossed 6-1/3 innings for the win, striking out four and walking three. He yielded five hits and an unearned run. Carter Church walked one and fanned two in recording the final two outs.

W-G returns to action Tuesday when they host AC/GC, with E-B-F visiting Granger Wednesday.
