W-G shortstop Reese Jamison throws out a Woodward Academy batter last year. Jamison's move to the lead-off spot in the Hawk lineup has helped spark the offense.

GRANGER — A three-run bottom of the third inning proved to be the winning spurt host Woodward-Granger needed Monday, leading the Hawks to a 4-3 WCAC win over Ogden.

When last they met, the Hawk offense was being stifled by Bulldog ace Jacob Craven, who spun a perfect game in Granger. The hosts were not about to let the situation repeat itself Monday, jumping to a quick 1-0 lead after the opening inning.

The Bulldogs (4-3, 3-2) tied the game in the top of the third, but the Hawks (7-0, 5-0) crossed the plate three times in the bottom of the frame to move in front, 4-1. Two Ogden runs in the fourth trimmed the gap to 4-3, but the guests could come no closer.

W-G skipper Eric Evans made a key move a few games ago when he moved junior Reese Jamison into the lead-off spot in the lineup. The switch has paid dividends and worked well again Monday, with Jamison providing three singles while driving in one run and scoring once.

Bryce Achenbach had two hits, two RBIs and scored once, with Joe Rhodes adding a pair of base hits. Hunter Pifer and Jack Grell also had hits, with each scoring once.

Alex Bice moved to 2-0 on the season after throwing four innings of five-hit ball. He allowed three runs on four walks and finished with two strikeouts.

Caden Easter cleaned up to earn a three-inning save. He did not allow a hit nor a walk and fanned six.

Craven last 3-1/3 innings, yielding four runs (three earned) while striking out four. Carter Church pitched 2-2/3 frames, striking out three. Craven allowed seven hits and Church two.

W-G hosts Pleasantville Thursday for a WCAC varsity doubleheader, with the opener beginning at 5 p.m.
