Woodward-Granger fell to BCLUW Thursday in their regional semifinal, ending their first season under head coach Bailey Hunt with a 23-11 record.

JEWELL — Three of the four sets played in Thursday’s Class 2A Region 4 Semifinal between BCLUW and Woodward-Granger were decided by three or fewer points. Unfortunately for W-G, each of those wins were claimed by BCLUW, as the Comets posted a 3-1 win to eliminate the Hawks.

BCLUW (26-11) won each of the first two sets by 25-23 finals, with W-G (23-11) keeping their season alive by recording a 25-17 win the third set. A 25-22 Comet victory in the fourth set ended an excellent season for the Hawks and sent BCLUW on to the Region Final in Earlham Tuesday, where they will face seventh-ranked Tri-Center.

Individual statistics from the match had not been made available as of late Saturday.

Briley Bermel, Megan Burkhart, Mya Kasiar, Lisa Pitman, Alissa Smeltzer, Ashlyn Soelberg and Anna Tague had their prep volleyball careers end with the setback. The Hawks were a combined 108-42 in their four years with the high school program. Excluding four playoff losses, only nine defeats during the past four seasons have come from schools with the same or smaller classification than W-G.
