W-G boys claim title, girls team third at Hawk Relays

WOODWARD — Tuesday was a night to remember for the Woodward-Granger track teams as both recorded six wins apiece at the Hawk Relays.

The W-G boys scored 149 points to win the meet, with Ogden second at 123 and Greene County third at 116 in an eight-team. Greene County’s 137 points won the girls side, with Ogden second at 130.5 and W-G third with 114 points. A total of seven girls team were in action at Uthe Track.

The Hawk boys won four relays, with Worth Henry, Nick Moser, Trey Lettow and Keith Braunschweig winning the shuttle hurdle in 1 minute 9.06 seconds while Caleb Jones, Jack Grell, Alex Bice, and Kaya Bowlsby won the 4×800 in 9:10.92. Bryce Achenbach, Ian Thompson, Josh Saak and Cale Pritchett were first in the 4×400 (3:40.89), with Saak, Thompson, Chandler Cavanaugh and Jay Dorenkamp first in the sprint medley (1:41.33).

Gage Lisle, Reese Jamison, Dorenkamp and Pritchett were third (1:42.51) in the 4×200, Achenbach, Jamison, Dorenkamp and Braunschweig third (48.76) in the 4×100 and Lisle, Jamison, Saak and Jones second (4:03.36) in the distance medley.

Jones (5:19.05) and Dylan Steele (5:23.02) were 3-6 in the 1600, with Trevor Faltonson (11:14.71) and Steele (12:02.52) 4-5 in the 3200.

Ian Thompson and Alex Bice finished 1-5, in 2:09.27 and 2:20.01, in the 800, with Braunschweig second, in 16.77, and Moser sixth, in 19.6, in the 110 hurdles while Henry crossed fourth, in 1:10.23, in the 400 hurdles.

Cavanaugh was steady in the sprints, tying for fourth (11.94) in the 100, finishing fifth (25.27) in the 200 and placing fifth (56.72) behind Achenbach, who was fourth in 56.57, in the 400.

The Hawk boys amassed points in the field events as well, with Brody Easter and Dillon Fograrty 1-2, at 43 feet, 1-3/4 inches and 42’5-1/4, in the shot put, with Brendan Bird and Easter 2-3 in the discus at 120’11 and 119’7. Achenbach flew 19’5 for third in the long jump, with Pritchett fourth (5’4) and Braunschweig sixth (5’2) in the high jump.

Field points in the girls meet for the Hawks came from Sophie David in the long jump (5th, 13’11), Janae Jones in the discus (3rd, 94’5) and Katelyn Scharlau in the shot put (29’1-1/2).

Chloe David and Sophie David were 1-5, in 18.82 and 18.98, in the 100 hurdles, with Posey Robinson fourth (13:39.78) and Briley Bermel fifth (14:07.74) in the 3000.

Kaitlyn Peters claimed the 1500 in 5:37.71, with Josie Noland (1:08.36) and Elly Polich (1:11.41) 1-4 in the 400 and Emma Drake (2:36.37) and Natalie Helbling (2:59.92) 1-3 in the 800.

Drake, Peters, Anna Tague and Ava Petersen won the 4×800 in 10:39.71, with Drake, Anna Tague, Petersen and Kayley Dresback first in the 4×400 in 4:35.05.

Katelyn Bandstra, Noland, Dresback and Gena Tague crossed second in the sprint medley at 2:04.39, with the distance medley foursome of Anna Tague, Peters, Bandstra and Petersen second in 4:48.46.

Olivia Sus, Jocelyn Ruland and both Chloe and Sophia David finished the shuttle hurdle third in 1:23.21, with Bandstra, Helbling, Gena Tague and Alissa Smeltzer using a 2:03.65 to place third in the 4×200 while the 4×100 relay unit of Bandstra, Noland, Gena Tague and Helbling turned a 58.52 clocking into two fifth-place points.
