AMES — Gilbert’s Tommy Doyle fired a one-under par 36-34–70 to lead the hosts to victory at Saturday’s 18-hole boys invitational. Played at the Ames Country Club, Gilbert was an easy winner in team competition with a 310, 15 strokes clear of runner-up Boone.

Nevada was third at 330 strokes, with ADM (332), DC-G (360), Roland-Story (372), Ballard (381), Van Meter (381) and Woodward-Granger (382) completing the field. Boone (369) and Nevada (377) claimed the top two junior varsity spots, with R-S, Van Meter and W-G not having four JV players and thus unable to record an official score.

In addition to individual champion Doyle’s impressive sub-par round, Gilbert also used cards of 35-41–76 from Joe Gibbons, of 39-42–81 from Carter Johnsen and of 38-45–83 from Ethan Robey for their winning total.

Taylor Wauhob (36-39–75) led Boone, James Carsrud 38-41–79) Nevada, and Jacob Schumacher (37-41–78) ADM, with Derek Shanno (40-43–83) low man for DC-G while Tyler Risdal (44-43–87) and Nick Stole (43-44–87) were the lead scorers for R-S.
