W-G boys post easy win in regular season finale

WOODWARD — The regular season concluded Thursday for the Woodward-Granger boys cagers with a 79-35 non-conference victory over visiting Collins-Maxwell.

W-G (12-9) was in control throughout, leading 21-10 after one period and taking a 34-17 advantage into the locker room. C-M (1-18) simply had no answer, and entered the fourth period facing a 63-31 deficit.

Bryce Achenbach lead all scorers with 18 points for W-G, with Keith Braunschweig adding 15 points, Pacey Moats 11 and Noah Hoyt 10. J.P. Nixon scored seven points and Reese Jamison five, with four points apiece from Brendan Bird and Kaya Bowlsby, three from Alex Bice and two from Cole Theisen wrapping the score list for the Hawks.

Official numbers from C-M were not available.

Postseason play begins Monday with two games at Woodward. Greene County faces Panorama at 6:30 p.m. with W-G hosting AC/GC at 8 p.m. in Class 2A District 15 first round action. Winners advance to Feb. 15 games at Des Moines Christian, with Woodward Academy facing the AC/GC vs. W-G victor at 6:30 p.m. while the Panorama vs. Greene County winner battles host DMC at 8 p.m.
