WOODWARD — The Woodward-Granger boys basketball team managed to score 20 more points than the total scored by both teams in the girls game, with the results of both ends of Tuesday’s WCAC set falling in favor of the Hawks.

W-G (5-1, 3-1) crushed visiting Interstate-35 (1-4, 1-3), 75-30, in the boys contest, with the Hawk girls (5-1, 4-0) winning a low-scoring scrap with the Roadrunners (0-6, 0-4) by a single point, 28-27.

The hosts were hardly challenged in the nightcap. The Hawks have been fast starters again this season and Tuesday was business as usual as the home team led, 21-4, after one period of play. The score stood at 45-14 at the half, and at 63-17 after three quarters.

All 14 Hawks in uniform saw playing time, with 10 entering the score book, with 14 points apiece from Nick Buch and Reese Jamison leading the way.

Alex Bice added 10 points and Kaya Bowlsby nine, with Bryce Achenbach chipping in eight points and Pacey Moats six. Five free throws from Keith Braunschweig, four points from Matt Hansen, three from Walker Deputy and two from Trevor Simmons filled out the scoring list for the victors.

Kale Day had 12 points, Carter Bussanmas nine, Jace Hildebrand six and Sam Cox three for the visitors.

Points were hard to come by for both teams in the opener, with W-G holding leads of 7-5 and of 15-12, respectively, after the first two quarters of play. The Hawks led, 25-20, entering the fourth quarter, but scored just three points the rest of the way.

I-35 landed a long-range 3-pointer at the buzzer to make the final margin of victory one point.

Seven points from Emma Anderson and six from Finley Fitzgerald were the top two outputs for the Hawks. Katelyn Scharlau provided five points and Natalie Helbling four, with three points from Darby Nixon, two from Mae Anderson and one from Ava Petersen accounted for the W-G offense.

W-G visits Ogden Friday in the final pre-holiday games for both schools.
