WOODWARD, Iowa — Arch-rivals Woodward-Granger and Madrid split a pair on the WCAC hardwood Tuesday, with host W-G winning the girls game, 43-33, with Madrid winning the boys game, 72-51.

The opener was tight for most of the game, with W-G (6-8, 4-5) and Madrid (1-12, 1-8) knotted, at 22-all, at the intermission. The Hawks slipped out to a 29-25 lead after three frames and led, 37-30, late in the game before holding on for the victory.

The win, their sixth of the season, allowed the Hawks to surpass the five wins the team recorded in their most recent campaign.

Grace Deputy had another double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead the hosts.

Lexi Bogardus had 10 points and three assists and Darby Nixon eight points and five steals, with Georgia Simmons adding five points, Rian Jamison three and Libby Grell one.

W-G (1-11, 0-8) trailed only 26-20 at the half of their game, but Madrid (9-4, 7-3) used a 25-11 eruption in the third frame to generate a 51-31 lead entering the final period.

Carter Moran had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Brody Nardini 16 points and 11 boards to pace the home team.

Josh Hultman, Don David, Collin Nardini and Paden Drake each scored three points, with Chandler Drake scoring two points and Dane Polich one.

Toryn Severson (14), Kadyn Severson (13), Brady Leonard (12) and Tabian Ortiz-Alaniz (11) fueled the Tiger offense.

W-G plays coed WCAC sets Friday at Ogden and Jan. 28 at Pleasantville. The Hawk girls will host Grand View Christian Jan. 27, with the Hawk boys walking to the W-G Middle School gym to play host Woodward Academy Jan. 27.
