PANORA — The Woodward-Granger harriers spent Thursday competing in the WCAC meet, with the Hawk boys seventh in an 11-team field while the W-G girls placed eighth of nine squads.
Des Moines Christian won the boys side with 45 points, with Madrid second at 49 and Earlham third at 79 with W-G finished with 206 points. Louden Foster of West Central Valley was the individual champion with a clocking of 16 minutes, 54 seconds.
Dylan Steele and Alex Bice were the first two W-G boys to finish, crossing 29th and 38th, respectively, in 19:10 and 19:31. Xavier Ibarra was 43rd in 19:47, Carsten Wright 47th in 20:06 and Caleb Jones 49th in 20:14 to account for the scoring. Jack Grell (50th, 20:21) and Kaya Bowlsby (57th, 21:06) also ran for the varsity.
Nick Buch (21:31) and Hailey Hill (23:58) were the first two W-G junior varsity finishers.
AC/GC’s Kate Crawford edged Panorama’s Ella Waddle, 19:50 to 20:18, for the top girls placing. Van Meter (46), AC/GC (61) and Earlham (65) had the top three team spots, with W-G tying WCV for eighth at 248 but winning the tiebreaker as the Wildcats did not have a sixth runner.
Natalie Helbling (25:08), Kaitlyn Smith (26:06) and Katie Grell (26:30) were 41-48-51 to pace the W-G girls, with Ava Petersen (53rd, 27:23) and Madisyn Mann (55th, 27:41) also scoring.
Makenzie Dresback (57th, 28:24) and Sydney Grell (58th, 28:43) also ran for the varsity, with Marissa Trees (32:04) running JV.
AC/GC (45) and Madrid (60) were the top two teams in the two-mile boys middle school race, with W-G 10th at 246.
Aiden Topalovich (15:30), Dillon Limoges (15:48), Casey Foster (16:09), Sterling Parkinson (17:01) and Grant Polito (17:13) were 41-43-47-53-58 to generate the Hawk total. Tyler Anousis (59th, 17:14) and Shaefer Hanson (61st, 17:24) were also on the course for W-G.
Van Meter (53) and Earlham (77) were 1-2 in the girls middle school event, with W-G ninth at 203.
Libby Grell (17th, 16:13), Avery Smith (39th, 17:51), Lauren Rodgers (46th, 19:17), Alexis Bogardus (49th, 22:39) and Bronwyn Fridinger (52nd, 28:18) competed for the Hawks.
Woodward-Granger will compete in Marshalltown Thursday in a state qualifying meet. The runs will begin at 3 p.m.
