W-G cross country visits WCV Invite Thursday

REDFIELD — The West Central Valley middle school served as host site for the Wildcat Invitational Thursday, with Woodward-Granger sending both varsity teams to the event.

AC/GC won the boys varsity race with 22 points, with Missouri Valley second at 50. Van Meter (93) was third, with W-G (136) fourth, Ankeny Christian Academy (138) fifth, WCV (139) sixth and Woodward Academy (156) seventh.

Van Meter (31) and AC/GC (40) were the top two girls varsity team finishers, with WCV (64), W-G (111) and Earlham (119) in tow.

Trevin Suhr of AC/GC was the boys winner in 17 minutes, 21.44 seconds. Missouri Valley’s Cody Gilpin was second, in 17:39.52, with Justin Reinhart of AC/GC third in 18:10.74.

Carsten Wright led W-G by crossing eighth in 18:45.37. Dillon Limoges and Healey Hill were 27-28, in 21:08.03 and 21:11.26, respectively, with Xavier Ibarra 36th in 21:35.83 and Elijah Bell 37th in 21:37.63. Tjaden Smeltzer (38th, 21:38.69) and Joel Harney (39th, 21:42.92) both ran for the Hawks as well.

Clare and Mary Kelly of Van Meter were 1-2, in 20:12.29 and 20:35.94, in the girls varsity race, with WCV’s Chasey Rowan placing third at 20:43.79.

Libby Grell’s run ended in 15th place in 24:15.01, with Sydney Grell (25:38.95) and Katie Grell (26:03.22) finishing 21-22. Also scoring for the varsity were Makenzie Dresback (25th, 26:44.62) and Avery Smith (28th, 28:09.49), with Madisyn Mann (29th, 28:11.12) and Marissa Trees (32nd, 32:34.47) also running the course.

The W-G high school and middle school teams return to action at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Nodaway Valley Invitational. The event is hosted by the Greenfield Golf Course.
