IOWA CITY — The Woodward-Granger softball team had their two Friday games at the annual Clear Creek-Amana Classic erased by rain, but the weather relented long enough for the Hawks to play twice Saturday.

Unfortunately for W-G their opponents were Williamsburg (22-9) and Central DeWitt (11-3), who posted wins of 16-3 and of 11-3, respectively, during the tourney, held at the University of Iowa.

Central DeWitt scored first against W-G, but the Hawks (6-23) grabbed a 3-1 lead with a trio of runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Sabers responded with seven tallies in the sixth and three more in the seventh to pull away for the win.

Seven errors doomed the Hawks and starter Rian Jamison, as only two DeWitt runs were earned. Jamison yielded nine hits and four walks while striking out three.

Makenzie Rosenboom had a single, a double and three RBIs to pace the Saber assault.

Emma Anderson had two singles, Audrey Simmons a base hit and Chloe Houge a single to lead the Hawk offense. All three scored once, with Simmons recording a RBI.

Defensive miscues plagued the Hawks against the Raiders, with Williamsburg scoring 10 times in the third (seven were unearned) to blow open a 1-0 game.

Jamison was saddled with the loss, allowing 16 runs (eight earned) on nine hits and six walks while retiring four batters on strikes.

Allie Moore had a RBI-double for W-G, with Natalie Weaver and Houge adding doubles while Maddi Danti and Ava Petersen tallied singles. Danti and Weaver each drove in a run, with Brylee Bice and Katelyn Scharlau joining Houge in scoring.

Aubray Walters had two singles, a double and five RBIs while scoring three times for Williamsburg, with Rylie Metz providing a triple, a home run and three RBIs while scoring twice.

W-G plays five games this week, beginning with a trip to Ogden today. The Hawks host Madrid Tuesday, visit Des Moines Christian for a varsity doubleheader Thursday and will then entertain Southeast Valley Friday.
