W-G girls open season with road win

MAXWELL — Seven Hawks entered the scoring ledger as the Woodward-Granger girls scored a 48-38 win over host Collins-Maxwell in the season opener for both teams Friday.

W-G held a 17-13 lead at the half before holding off C-M to claim the victory.

Emma Anderson had 15 points and Katelyn Scharlau 10 to pace the Hawks. Natalie Helbling added eight points and Darby Nixon six, with the trio of Quinn Kaufman, Mae Anderson and Finley Fitzgerald providing three points apiece.

The visitors splashed three 3-point shots, with Emma Anderson hitting two treys and Nixon one.

Statistic information from the Spartans was not available.

W-G is idle until being joined by the Hawk boys for the home opener Dec. 5 against Martensdale-St. Marys. Both W-G squads will then travel to Panorama Dec. 6 for their WCAC opener.
