WOODWARD — The Woodward-Granger girls claimed their first victory of the season in exciting fashion by posting a 48-42 triumph over West Central Valley in overtime Friday.

The Hawks (1-4, 1-2) held a 18-17 lead after one half and were in front, 31-25, after three frames. The Wildcats (2-3, 1-2) outscored their hosts, 11-5, in the fourth quarter to force extra time with the game knotted at 36-all.

WCV grabbed a quick 38-36 lead in the bonus period, but W-G freshman Emma Anderson splashed a 3-pointer to give the hosts a 39-38 lead, an edge the home team would not relinquish. Anderson hit a traditional field goal then joined Kayley Dresback in scoring from the foul line.

W-G had connected on just 5-of-19 at the stripe during regulation but found the hot hand when it mattered most, draining 5-of-6 in overtime to help salt away the win.

Anderson finished with 20 points and Dresback with 13 to pace the hosts. Natalie Helbling provided six points, Rian Jamison and Katelyn Scharlau three apiece, Ava Peterson two points and Quinn Kaufmann one.

W-G travels twice next week, visiting Interstate-35 Tuesday and Ogden Friday before hosting Greene County in a boys/girls non-conference set on Dec. 17.
