W-G golfers squeeze in nine holes Monday

MENLO — The weather cooperated just enough for the Woodward-Granger and Van Meter golf teams to visit West Central Valley for a WCAC coed triangular at the 5×80 Golf Course Monday.

Van Meter fired a combined 191 to edge WCV by two strokes for the boys team win, with W-G carding a 200. Van Meter had a 201 and W-G a 267 on the girls side, with WCV fielding only two golfers and thus not generating a team score.

WCV’s Garret Caltrider shot a three-over par 39 for boys medalist honors, with Van Meter’s J.J. Durflinger the runner-up with a 45. London Wille carded a 44 and Kylie Carey a 49 the top two medalist honors went to Van Meter girls in their meet.

Coby Peters led the W-G boys with a round of 47, with Nick Brummond shooting a 49 and both Hunter Pierce and Matt Buch rounds of 52. Cards of 55 from Nick Buch and of 57 from Max Helbling were not used for the team total.

Durflinger (45) and Blake Fryar (46) led Van Meter, with Dylan Sloan (48) and Anthony Lowman (52) also scoring. Parker Fryar (52) and Taylor Birks (54) also played for the Bulldogs.

Garret Caltrider’s 39 paced WCV, with Grant Caltrider (47), Cole Arnburg (48) and Devan Jones (59) adding their scores. Tony Jones (61) and Cain Brandon (63) were in action for the Wildcats as well.

W-G was led on the girls side by a 59 from Aubrey Mescher. Cierra DeHoet shot a 64, with a 69 from Emma Greiner and a 75 from Bailey Thompson also tallied. Megan Burkhart (80) and Emily Trewet (98) played for the Hawks but did not have their scores used.

Wille (44) and Kylie Carey (49) paced Van Meter, with Molly Carey addng a 50 and Morgan Robinson a 58. Bekah Walter (64), Elsa Abrahamson (68) and Maggie Braun (80) also made the circuit.

The hosts were represented by Darby Davis, who carded a 61, and by Emma Johnson, who posted a 90.

W-G will host AC/GC and Panorama Monday for a WCAC triangular at the Woodward Golf Club, with tee time set for 4 p.m.
