W-G runs the course at Nodaway Valley event

GREENFIELD, IA — The Woodward-Granger cross country teams joined a large field Monday at the Adair County Fairgrounds for the annual Nodaway Valley Invitational.

Interstate-35 used a score of 61 to win the boys varsity event, with W-G fifth of 11 at 127. The girls team crown was taken by Van Meter and their 19 points, with W-G second in the eight-team field with 83 points.

Doug Berg of Nodaway Valley won the boys race in 18 Minutes, 6.31 seconds, with Austin VanderWerf of I-35 second in 18:31.84. A total of 96 racers competed.

Carsten Wright was 15th in 20:36.4 to lead W-G, with Healey Hill 21st in 21:06.21 and Cael Leighton 23rd in 21:07.27. Dillon Limoges (30th, 21:22.68) and Sterling Parkinson (38th, 22:26.01) both scored, with Aiden Topalovich (41st, 22:50.61) and Elijah Taylor (50th, 23:38.81) running varsity as well.

Also in action were Alex Younts (23:51.23), Grant Polito (25:24.7) and Sidney Trees (26:05.73).

Nodaway Valley (37) won the two-mile middle school boys race, with W-G sixth of six at 142.

Cooper Finestead (8th, 13:38.19), Alex Hoyt (31st, 17:34.53), Braden Love (32nd, 17:50.64), Michael Kundel (33rd, 17:56.23), and Noah Faust (38th, 22:44.96) ran for W-G.

Van Meter senior sisters Clare (20:06.17) and Mary (20:15.39) Kelly were the first two girls individual varsity finishers, with W-G freshman Eva Fleshner (20:56.93) crossing third.

Adysen Churchill (16th, 24:33.34), Chloe Creger (19th, 24:53.91), Danika Leuenberger (22nd, 25:07.44) and Jaidyn Achenbach (23rd, 25:07.73) completed the scoring five for the Hawks. Libby Grell (27th, 25:27.67) and Talia Wright (36th, 32:25.46) also ran for the varsity, with Rylee Woodard (29:58.17) and Marissa Trees (32:25.46) on the course as well.

Lucy Fleshner was the only Hawk girl to run in the middle school race. She crossed seventh in 15:05.14.
