Woodward-Granger senior Matt Rhodes races home to score against ICA May 31. He finished tied for second in Class 2A with 49 RBIs this season.

EARLHAM — Woodward-Granger ran wild on the bases Monday to help run their season-opening win streak to 10 games with an 11-3 WCAC victory at Earlham.

The Hawks (10-0, 4-0) stole 11 bases off the Cardinals (3-8, 1-5), who issued six walks to W-G batters. The guests pounded out 11 hits and scored in five different innings en route to the win.

W-G held a 4-1 lead after five innings, but then scored four times in the sixth and three more times in the seventh to open an 11-1 lead. Earlham scratched a pair of runs across the plate in the bottom of the frame but it was far from enough to avoid the loss.

Spencer Hanson was 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI with Matt Rhodes driving in three runs and scoring three times on a 3-for-5 effort that included a pair of doubles.

Reese Jamison had a RBI-double, with Cole Theisen, Matt Buch, Austin Scharlau and Marcus McConahay also adding hits. Theisen had two RBIs and Buch one, with McConahay and Hanson each scoring twice.

The win went to Brandon Worley, who tossed 6-1/3 innings. He allowed five hits and issued two walks while striking out five, with all three runs he yielded unearned. Nick Brummond finished up, walking one while recording two outs.

W-G host AC/GC tonight and the Woodward Academy for a WCAC varsity twinbill Thursday before entertaining Des Moines North for a non-conference contest Friday.
