WOODWARD — A steady stream of runs in Saturday’s second game helped the Woodward-Granger softballers snap a four-game skid.

W-G (2-4) rallied from a 3-0 deficit with two runs in third, fourth and fifth innings en route to a 6-3 win over Saydel (3-5) at Phil Creese Field. The win followed a 6-2 setback earlier in the day to Grandview Christian (3-3) and came after losses of 7-1 and 5-3 to visiting Van Meter Thursday.

Rian Jamison doubled home Chloe Houge and Emma Anderson — both of who had singled — to draw the Hawks to within 3-2 in the Saydel game. Audrey Simmons walked and Brylee Bice singled to put two runners on in the fourth, with a RBI-ground out from Houge and an Anderson single pushing the hosts into the lead.

Allie Moore had a double, Ava Peterson a single and Simmons a two-run double to drive in the final two W-G runs, which crossed in the fifth. The game ended after six frames.

Anderson finished with two singles, a double, a run and a RBI while adding a run, a RBI and two base hits. Jamison and Simmons each had two RBIs, with Simmons also scoring. Moore, Bice and Peterson had hits, with Abby Pommrehn also scoring.

Jamison allowed three runs on 11 hits and three walks while striking out one in earning the win.

W-G led GVC, 2-1, after two frames in the 10 a.m. game, but the Thunder struck for three runs in the top of the fifth and two in the sixth to pull away.

Anderson, Bice, Moore, Bella McDivitt, Katelyn Bandstra, and both Audrey and Georgia Simmons had singles for the Hawks. Bandstra scored on a Jamison RBI-double in the first, with Moore scampering home in the second on a wild pitch.

Jamison was touched for 18 hits while walking one in six innings. She allowed six runs and struck out three.

GRANGER — Van Meter swept W-G in WCAC play Thursday. The Bulldogs were 7-1 winners in the opener (statistics from the game were unavailable) before taking a weather-shortened 5-3 win in the nightcap.

W-G was the visitor in the second game and tied the contest at 2-2 with two runs in the top of the fourth. Van Meter responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, with the Hawks scoring once in the fifth when lightning delayed — and eventually called a finish — to the game.

Jamison surrendered five runs (two earned) on four hits. She walked two and struck out two.

Anderson had a single, a double and a run, with Jamison, Bice, Moore, McDivitt and Audrey Simmons adding hits. Simmons and Moore also scored, with McDivitt credited with two RBIs and Jamison one.

W-G hosts WCV Monday, then travels to Gilbert Tuesday, Pleasantville Wednesday and Earlham for a doubleheader Friday.
