W-G splits conference set with host I-35

TRURO — Woodward-Granger was an easy winner in Tuesday’s meeting with host Interstate-35, with the W-G girls dropping a close contest to I-35 in a pair of WCAC hoops battles.

The Roadrunners evened the Hawk girls with identical overall and conference records of 1-5 and 1-3 after posting a 36-33 win, with the W-G boys having little trouble to gliding to a 64-41 win.

The nightcap was in the control of the Hawk boys from the early stages, with the guests surging to a 21-7 lead after one quarter of play, with the gulf widening to 40-16 at halftime.

Four Hawks reached double-digits in the scorebook, with Bryce Achenbach leading the way with 15 points. Keith Braunschweig had 13 points, Noah Hoyt 12 and Kaya Bowlsby 10. Alex Bice had five points, Nick Buch four and Reese Jamison and Jack Grell three each.

Braunschweig corralled nine rebounds and Hoyt five, with Achenbach distributing five assists while Bice, Bowlsby and Jamison had three assists apiece.

Richie Griglione led I-35 with 18 points, with Carter Bussanmas adding 13 points, Alex McCuddin seven and Mick Vanfelt three.

The W-G girls trailed, 16-14, at the break and were unable to pass their hosts, who held on for the three-point win.

Emma Anderson and Kayley Dresback had nine points apiece for the Hawks, with Natalie Helbling providing seven points. Four points each from Ava Peterson and Katelyn Scharlau capped the W-G scoring.

Statistical information for the Roadrunner girls was not available.

W-G visits Ogden Friday before playing a non-conference twin bill against visiting Greene County Monday. A trip to Madrid Tuesday and a home set against Pleasantville Dec. 21 will conclude the first half of the season.
