GRANGER — The Woodward-Granger baseball team went about their business in steady fashion Thursday, posting wins of 4-1 and of 9-4 in a conference doubleheader with visiting Pleasantville.

W-G (10-0, 8-0) held only a 2-1 lead after three frames in the opener, but the Hawks — the visitor on the scoreboard — added single tallies in the top of the sixth and seventh to pull away for the win.

Reese Jamison had a double and two RBIs, with Bryce Achenbach adding a single, a steal and two runs scored with Brandon Worley providing a single and a run. Joe Rhodes also had a hit, with Jack Grell scoring.

Jay Dorenkamp pitched three innings, allowing an unearned run on six hits and a walk while striking out two. Trevor Simmons pitched four innings, walking two and fanning two.

The Hawks scored once in the bottom of the fourth to tie the second game at 2-all. A Grell go-ahead hit in the fifth helped W-G open a 4-2 lead, with five tallies in the sixth creating enough of a margin that two Trojan runs in their final at-bat was not nearly enough to change the outcome.

Jamison had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored, with Rhodes, Worley, Achenbach, Grell and Pacey Moats adding singles. Moats had two RBIs, with Rhodes and Worley also driving in runs. Hunter Pifer walked and aided the cause with a RBI.

Worth Henry started for W-G and pitched 4-2/3 frames, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk. Eighth-grader Collin Nardini picked up his first varsity win with 1-2/3 innings of relief. He was touched for two unearned runs on two hits and two walks while Jamison struck out one in retiring two batters. Henry finished with four strikeouts and Nardini with one.

W-G visits AC/GC Monday, hosts Panorama Tuesday for a varsity doubleheader and then visits Van Meter Thursday for another varsity twin bill. All five games are WCAC outings.
