GRANGER — The winless South Tama County hardballers grabbed a 2-0 lead before Woodward-Granger rallied with three runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to claim a 4-2 non-conference win Friday.
Worth Henry surrendered two runs (one earned) on two hits in 2-1/3 innings as the starter. He was relieved by Reese Jamison, who took the win with 4-2/3 scoreless frames of one-hit ball. Henry walked two, hit two and struck out three, with Jamison walking one, hitting two and fanning seven.
Jamison and Henry each had base hits, as did Trevor Simmons, with Pacey Moats hitting a single and a double. Moats scored twice, Simmons once and Christian Huismann once.
Lane Lekin threw five frames for the Trojans (0-7). He surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out three. Logan Arp pitched one stanza, allowing an unearned run while hitting one batter and whiffing one.
Arp walked twice and scored twice, with Mickey Wanatee adding two hits and a RBI, with Brayden Smith hitting a single while Matt Wiese drove in a run.
W-G hosts Ogden Monday, visits Madrid Tuesday and then plays a twin bill Thursday against visiting Des Moines Christian. The Hawks will then visit Earlham to cap a busy week.
