W-G thinclads compete at conference meet Tuesday

MADRID — Woodward-Granger’s girls track team scored 42.5 points to place eighth in Tuesday’s West Central Conference meet, with the Hawk boys tallying 26 points for ninth in the 10-team boys side.

Panorama won the girls title with 168 points, with Madrid second at 135 and AC/GC third with 96 points in the nine-team girls race. Madrid (166), Earlham (142) and the Woodward Academy (113) claimed the top three boys team spots.

Emma Buckman was sixth the for the W-G girls in the discus with a spin of 88 feet, 3-1/2 inches. She was eighth, at 30’2-1/2 in the shot put while Natalie Helbling tied for sixth in the high jump at 4’6.

Emma Drake placed third, in 2 minutes, 28.31 seconds in the 800, with Kaitlyn Peters fifth in the 1500 in 5:32.38 while Josie Noland crossed seventh in the 400 in 1:11.48.

Drake, Peters, Anna Tague and Helbling were second in the 4×800 in 10:36.84, with Noland replacing Helbling for the 4×400, which finished fifth in 4:32.58.

Noland, Drake, Tague and Kaitlyn Bandstra were fifth in the sprint medley (2:04.59), with Maddi Danti, Chloe and Savannah David and Helbling sixth in the shuttle hurdle in 1:23.97.

Chloe David, Quinn Kaufman, Riley Jamison and Mae Anderson finished seventh in the distance medley (5:19.91), Bandstra, Anderson, Kaufman and Alyssa Bice were seventh in the 4×200 (2:05.2) with Bandstra, Bice, Kaufman and Chloe David eighth in the 4×100 (57 seconds).

Brendan Bird was fifth in the discus for the Hawk boys at 128’7-1/2, with Bryce Achenbach seventh in the long jump at 18’1-1/2 and Cale Pritchett seventh in the high jump at 5’4. The Hawks did not score in the eight individual running events.

Marcus McConahay, Ian Thompson, Chandler Cavanaugh and Achenback were fifth in both the 4×400 (3:46.46) and 4×800 (8:59.76), with Bird, McConahay, Thompson and Cavanaugh fifth in the sprint medley (1:40.23).

Josh Saak, Cavanaugh, Thompson and McConahay placed sixth, in 1:37.95, in the 4×200, with Bird, Achenbach, Saak and Austin Scharlau eighth, in 48.34, in the 4×100. The distance medley quartet of Saak, Scharlau, Gage Lisle and Jack Grell were eighth, in 4:08.16, with Kaya Bowlsby, Pacey Moats, Tate Lettow and Nick Moser placing eighth, in 1:14.1, in the shuttle hurdle.
