W-G thinclads run in Carroll Relays Tuesday

JEFFERSON — Greene County served as host site Tuesday for the Carroll Relays, as reconstruction on the Tiger stadium will keep the team on the road this spring.

The W-G girls scored 45 points to place fifth in an eight-team field, with the Hawk boys using 80 points to finish fourth in a seven-team meet. IKM-Manning won the girls side with 116 points, with 137 points from Webster City winning the boys title.

Emma Drake, Kaitlyn Peters, Anna Tague and Ava Petersen won the 4×800 in 10 minutes, 41.45 seconds, with the same foursome claiming the 4×400 in 4:33.75.

W-G won the distance medley when the foursome of Drake, Petersen, Katelyn Bandstra and Gena Tague finished in 4:44.08, with Gena Tague, Alissa Smeltzer, Mae Anderson and Josie Noland placing sixth in the 4×200 in 2:02.76.

Peters was second in the 1500 (5:45.97), Kayley Dresback fourth in the 400 (1:08.12) and Chloe David fourth in the 400 low hurdles (1:19.94) to account for the remainder of the points for the Hawk girls.

The W-G boys placed in five individual track events. Kale Pritchett was fifth in the 400 in 56.87 seconds, with Ian Thompson and Caleb Jones 2-3 in the 800 in 2:12.28 and 2:15.71.

Jones was fourth in the 1600 (5:14.8), Trevor Faltonson (11:39.25) and Dyaln Steele (11:42.66) were 3-4 in the 3200, with Keith Braunschweig (18.23) fifth in the 110 hurdles.

Bryce Achenbach, Josh Saak, Chandler Cavanaugh and Thompson won the 4×400 in 3:39.84 with Achenbach, Cavanaugh, Thompson and Reese Jamison first in the distance medley in 3:53.1.

Jones, Jack Grell, Cody Garland and Alex Bice were second in the 4×800 (9:20.84), Achenbach, Cavanaugh, Jamison and Polich third in the 4×100 (47.21) and Jay Dorenkamp, Polich, Saak and Gage Lisle fifth in the 4×200 (1:41.99).

The sprint medley unit of Saak, Thompson, Jamison and Dorenkamp placed fourth (1:43.1), with Braunschweig, Pacey Moats, Tate Lettow and Nick Moser sixth in the shuttle hurdle (1:10.69).

Braunschweig cleared 5 feet, 8 inches to tie for fourth in the high jump, with Achenbach flying 18’6-1/2 in the long jump for fifth place.

Throwing points came from Brendan Bird (4th, 141’10) and Brody Easter (6th, 121 feet) in the discus, and from Dillon Fogarty (6th, 41’11) in the shot put.

The W-G girls will compete at Ogden Thursday (April 12), with both Hawk teams visiting the Southeast Valley Relays Tuesday.
