W-G track teams run at Boone Thursday

BOONE — Both the boys and girls track teams from Woodward-Granger were in action Thursday in Boone, with squads from Ames and Webster City also competing at the meet.

Ames scored 155 points to win the boys side, with Webster City close behind at 146 while Boone had 77 points and W-G 61. Boone’s 140.5 claimed the girls title, with Ames scoring 134 points, Webster City 93.5 and W-G 80.

Emma Drake won both the 400 and 800 for the W-G girls, claiming the former in 1 minute, 4.26 seconds and the latter in 2:43.08, with Maddy Mann fourth in the 800 in 2:53.97.

Bella Milosevich and Posey Robinson were 3-5 in the 1500 in 6:17.91 and 6:44.63, with Robinson running the 3000 in 14:59.54. Josie Noland’s 29.65 second clocking finished fourth in the 200, with Maggie Halferty running the 100 in 14.74.

Brayten Ashman’s 1:16.99 earned second place in the 400 hurdles, with Olivia Sus and Mae Anderson 4-5 in the 100 hurdles in 18.7 and 18.96 ticks.

Kaydee Bennett was fourth in the shot put with a shove of 28 feet, 7-3/4 inches, with Janae Jones fifth in the discus at 74’8. Abby Pommrehn had a leap of 12’11-3/4 in the long jump, with Sus clearing 4’4 in the high jump.

W-G won the 4×400 in 4:28, were second in the 4×800 (11:39.1), distance medley (5:04.54) and shuttle hurdle (1:19.12), with the sprint medley unit third in 2:02.22. A clocking of 2:06.26 secured fourth place in the 4×200, with the 4×100 team crossing in 59.01.

No names were provided for the relay teams, either for the Hawk girls or boys.

The boys were second in the distance medley in 3:57.04 and third in the sprint medley in 1:45.13. The 4×200 (1:38.64), 4×400 (3:42.43) and 4×800 (9:00.86) were all third, with the 4×100 fourth in 48.48 seconds. The Hawks boys did not compete in the shuttle hurdle.

Bryce Achenbach and Dylan Bird finished 1-2 in the long jump with distances of 18’10 and 18’5-1/2, with Justin Wheeler competing in the discus (92’6) and Kris Kammerer in the shot put (34’7-1/2).

Kade Polich (11.54) and John McKeever (11.64) were 2-4 in the 100, with Bird fourth in the 400 (55.76) and Caleb Jones fifth in the 800 (2:17.65).

Reese Jamison ran the 200 in 25.76 and Jack Grell the 1600 in 5:23.21, with Dylan Steele finishing the 3200 in 11:57.07 while Kaya Bowlsby crossed, in 1:04.47, in the 400 hurdles.
