W-G track teams run at Panorama invite

PANORA — The outdoor track season began Tuesday for both Woodward-Granger teams as they participated in the Kip Janvrin Invitational.

Panorama won the girls meet with 218 points, with Madrid well back at 108. AC/GC was third with 90 points and Greene County fourth at 68, with Ogden (31), W-G (24), Woodbine (23) and Glidden-Ralston (21) closely backed in the second half of the field.

AC/GC’s 133.5 points claimed the boys top spot, with Woodbine second at 115 and Panorama third at 101. Greene County (99), Ogden (71.5), W-G (60) and G-R (8) rounded out the seven-team boys meet.

Kayley Dresback and Josie Noland were 4-5 in the 400 for the Hawk girls with times of 1 minute, 8.65 and 1:09.93, respectively, with Anna Tague fifth in the 200 in 29.86 clicks.

The 89-foot fifth-place spin of the discus by Janae Jones was the only other individual scoring performance for W-G.

The 4×400 unit of Noland, Dresback, Tague and Emma Drake were third in 4:36.89, with Drake, Tague, Noland and Ava Petersen third, in 10:54.82, in the 4×800 while Petersen, Darby Nixon, Brayten Ashman and Gena Tague placed fifth in the sprint medley in 2:11.03.

Chloe Houge, Gena Tague, Emma Anderson and Alexandria Mehrhoff ran the 4×100 in 58.16 while Petersen, Ashman, Nixon and Gena Tague ran the 4×200 in 2:06.26 and Ashman, Petersen, Mae Anderson and Hannah Miller the shuttle hurdle in 1:24.65.

Macey Lisle (15.79) ran the 100, Sydney Grell (3:06.06) the 800, Mae Anderson (20.53) the 100 hurdles and Ashman (1:25.04) the 400 hurdles while Bella Milosevich (6:32.58) competed in the 1500 and Chloe David (14:50.85) the 3000.

The Hawk boys had three individual running events place, led by Keith Braunschweig placing fourth in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the 400 hurdles in 17.55 and 1:02.91 while Dylan Bird was fifth int eh 400 in 56.56.

Bryce Achenbach placed second in the long jump at 19 feet, 6-3/4 inches, with Braunschweig fifth in the high jump after clearing 5’10.

Bird, Achenbach, Kaya Bowlsby and Cale Pritchett finished the 4×400 in 3:45.2, while Bowlsby, Braunschweig, Pritchett and Worth Henry completed the shuttle hurdle in 1:13.58 and Achenbach, Reese Jamison, Logan Roll and Kade Polich the sprint medley in 1:43. All three relays earned second-place points.

Bowlsby, Dylan Steele, Andrew Anderson and Cody Garland were third in the 4×800 in 9:30.85, with Polich, Steele, Jamison and Garland fifth in the distance medley in 4:13.6.

The 4×100 (47.25) and 4×200 (1:44.43) teams each placed fourth. Polich, Roll, Achenbach and Jamison ran the former and Polich, Roll, Jamison and Pritchett the latter.

Bird (12.68) competed in the 100 dash and Tate Lettow (26.85) in the 200, with Bowlsby running the 800 (2:22.06) and Steele the 1600 (5:45.33).

W-G will host the Hugh Cavanaugh Invitational Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Bondurant-Farrar, DC-G, Des Moines Christian, Perry, Southeast Valley and Woodward Academy will compete in the girls meet, with Colfax-Mingo, DMC, Nodaway Valley, Perry, Saydel, Southeast Valley and Woodward Academy in action on the boys side.
