ROLAND — A run in the bottom of the fifth inning broke open a 4-4 game, with a final tally in the sixth setting the final score at 6-4. Unfortunately for Woodward-Granger, it was host Roland-Story who emerged on top Monday in their non-conference tussle.
W-G (6-29) held an early 2-0 lead, then offset four R-S (9-13) runs in the third with two runs in the fifth to tie the game. The Norse were able to pull out the win with the two aforementioned rallies.
Rian Jamison allowed six runs from the circle for W-G, but just two of those were earned. She yielded nine hits and two walks in six innings.
Natalie Weaver had a two-run double, with Alissa Smeltzer adding a double and scoring once. Jamison and Katelyn Bandstra had RBI hits, with Chloe Houge also hitting a single. Houge and Bandstra also scored for the Hawks, with Audrey Simmons walking and scoring once.
Madison Geise allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits for R-S. She walked one and struck out eight in seven frames.
Geise had two hits and two RBIs for the hosts, with Susie Weaver adding two hits and scoring twice.
W-G hosts AC/GC tonight in their regular season finale.
