DES MOINES — Accolades continue to funnel their way toward the Woodward-Granger volleyball team after All-State and All-District honors were released Monday by the IGHSAU.
W-G junior Olivia McCune was named by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association to the Class 2A All-State Honorable Mention team. She was also one of three Hawks to earn Class 2A Central All-District nods.
McCune set a school record for blocks in a season this year with 68 and needs just 11 more to break Alison Neal’s 2004-2006 mark of 157 blocks for a career.
Fellow Hawk juniors Bree Lesch and Mary Hansen were also named to the All-District team, with head coach Meg Jackson named Coach of the Year in the district. This is the third such honor for Jackson, who was previously honored in 2011 and 2014.
Lesch and Hansen are in a running battle for the school record of most career aces, a mark Lesch owns with 205. Hansen is on her heels with 200, just two off the old standard of 202 set back in 1988-1989 by Teresa Anderson.
The crashing of the quikstats website prevents any additional statistics from being noted.
