MADRID, IA — Woodward-Granger overcame to 2-1 deficit to claim a 3-2 match win over Madrid in WCC volleyball Tuesday.
The Hawks opened with season with a 26-24 win in game one, but fell, 25-20, in game two and by a 25-22 margin in game three. W-G rallied for a 25-18 victory in game four, then seized the match victory by dominating the fifth set, 15-3.
Audrey Simmons had 13 kills and Grace Deputy 12 for W-G, with Emma Klocke and Lindsay Mescher adding four kills apiece, Cadence Klocke two kills and Anna Weaver and McKenzie Carroll one apiece.
Anna Weaver had 18 assists and Simmons 10, with Emma Klocke and Bella McDivitt both having two assists and Deputy one. Cadence Klocke and Deputy were awarded two blocks apiece, with Simmons tallying one.
Libero player McDivitt led the team with 16 digs. Cela Hill had 10 digs, as did Simmons, with Mescher adding eight, Weaver and Deputy six each, Emma Klocke three and Cadence Klocke and Carroll two each.
W-G did not serve particularly well, finishing 84-of-104 (81 percent) with 16 aces.
Deputy served 20-of-22 with eight aces, Mescher 17-19-2, Hill 17-19-2 and McDivitt 11-14-2. Simmons was 11-14-2 behind the line, with Carroll 7-8-1 and Weaver 4-of-8.
W-G hosts Des Moines Christian Tuesday before joining Atlantic, Gilbert, Nevada, Norwalk and host ADM for the Tiger Invite Sept. 1.
