HUXLEY — A trip to the Ballard Tournament was on Saturday’s slate for the Woodward-Granger volleyball team, with the Hawk netters playing four matches at the event.

Unfortunately for the Hawks victory proved elusive in each match, dropping W-G to 3-17 overall for the season.

West Marshall (21-15, 26-24), North Polk (21-14, 21-15), and Johnston (21-14, 21-14) topped W-G in pool play, with the Hawks falling to Grand View Christian (21-17, 21-12) to conclude their stay.

Ten combined kills for Jada Tague proved to be a team high, with Samantha Volz and Grace Deputy posting eight kills apiece. Brayten Ashman had six kills, Lindsay Mescher five, Audrey Simmons four, Ashley Gerken three, and Cela Hill one.

Simmons distributed 20 assists and Volz 12 to lead the offense. Darby Nixon tallied four assists, Hill three, Ashman and Tague two each and Deputy and Gerken one apiece.

Nixon’s 43 digs easily paced the defense, with Tague coming away with 23 digs and Ashman 15 while Simmons had 11. Deputy and Volz both had 10 digs and Gerken nine, with Bella McDivitt notching five digs, Hill four, Mescher three and Cadence Klocke one.

As a team the Hawks finished 117-of-132 (89 percent) serving with 13 total aces.
