W-G volleyball wins pair at Guthrie Center

GUTHRIE CENTER — W-G lifted their overall volleyball record to 8-7 and their WCAC mark to 2-1 after topping both Audubon and host AC/GC Tuesday.

Scores of 25-13 and 25-19 carried W-G past Audubon in non-conference play, with the Hawks topping the host Chargers, 25-17, 17-25, 25-11 and 25-14 in their league battle.

Anna Tague had 15 kills in the two wins, with Natalie Weaver recording 13 total kills, Elly Polich 11, Emma Drake 10, Katelyn Scharlau nine, Alissa Smeltzer eight and Katelyn Bandstra one. Smeltzer finished with 2.5 blocks, Drake one block and Polich and Scharlau .5 blocks apiece.

Drake distributed 26 assists and Polich 22, with Soelberg tallying eight assists, Weaver and Bandstra two each and Scharlau and Tague one apiece.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Soelberg’s 20 digs were a team-high, with Tague notching 16 digs, Polich 13 and Drake 12. Bandstra had nine digs and Weaver four, with Scharlau and Smeltzer providing three apiece.

Tague proved deadly behind the service line, finishing 31-of-31 with five aces while Drake was 31-of-34 with four aces. Polich was 16-19-1, Soelberg 16-16-1, Bandstra 13-13-2, Smeltzer 7-8-1, Weaver 5-6-1 and Scharlau 5-of-5.

W-G hosts Interstate-35 Tuesday and will entertain Pleasantville Thursday.
