W-G wrestlers have busy start to second half of season

BOONE — Woodward-Granger won two-of-three duals Thursday at a Boone quadrangular, with the strong showing coming off a 3-0 sweep of the competition in quad action at Martensdale-St. Marys.

W-G topped Boone, 54-30, and Perry, 54-25, Thursday while falling, 64-15, to Bondurant-Farrar. Boone bested Perry, 48-15, and fell to B-F, 56-15, with B-F a 68-9 winner over Perry in the other duals.

Dustin Harney had three pins Thursday at 152 pounds, with Jon McKeever (170 pounds) finishing 3-0 with two pins and an 8-4 decision.

Devan Brown (195) was 2-1 with two pins, with Jayden Flugge-Smith (132) 2-1 with a pin and a forfeit while Alex Saxton (106) and Peyton Nixon (113) were both 2-0 with each winning twice by forfeit.

Riece Graham had a pin and a forfeit to finish 2-0 at 126 pounds, with two forfeits helping Kade Polich (182) to a 2-1 mark while Brayden Simons was 1-2 with a win by fall at 145. Both Jackson Potter (160) and Kolby Fogarty (220) were 1-2 with wins by forfeit.

Joel Harney (120) was winless in two matches and Tjaden Smeltzer was turned back three times at 138 while the Hawks left 285 open.

W-G started January with a three-match sweep Tuesday, defeating Greene County, 39-36, host M-SM, 47-36, and Nodaway Valley, 54-15. Greene County topped both M-SM (39-24) and NV (43-12), with M-SM a 40-18 victor over NV.

Flugge-Smith (132) was 3-0 with two pins and technical fall, with Saxton 2-0 with forfeits at 106 while collecting a pin at 113 while Graham lost once at 120 before two pins at 120.

Joel Harney earned a forfeit and lost once at 126 while dropping a match at 120, with Smeltzer turned aside in three matches at 138.

Dustin Harney had a pin, a 2-0 decision, and a forfeit to finish 3-0 at 152, with Simons 1-2 with a pin at 145. Potter had a pin in finishing 1-2 at 160, McKeever had a pin and a forfeit to record a 2-1 mark at 172, with Polich and Brown each collecting three forfeits at 182 and 195, respectively, with Fogarty was 2-1 at 220 with a pin and a forfeit. W-G left 285 open.

W-G will compete at Winterset Saturday, with the Hawk junior varsity hitting the mats at Ogden.
