WOODWARD — Five wrestlers collected triple-wins, seven others scored wins in two of their three matches and two others had single wins as Woodward-Granger cruised to a trio of victories in quadrangular action Tuesday.

The host Hawks opened with a 72-12 landslide win over South Hamilton before posting a 57-21 victory against North Polk. W-G finished their season opener with a 54-27 triumph against Colfax-Mingo.

In a refreshing change for what occasionally is the case, only five forfeits were awarded to the Hawks, who had a wrestler at each of the 14 weight classes. Two forfeits were claimed in each of the first two duals and one in the latter, allowing most wrestlers to see three different opponents.

Four of the five Hawks who posted three wins did so with a trio of pins — Cody Fisher (195 pounds), Dillon Fogarty (220), Hunter Pierce (106) and Gabe Yingst (160) — while Jay Dorenkamp (138) won twice by pins and once by decision.

Ryan Munoz (120), Payton Tague (126), Austin Scharlau (152) recorded both of their victories by pin, with Dilynn Lewiston (113), Colt Palmer (132) and Tyler Lawrenson (285) claiming one win by pin and one by forfeit while Cale Pritchett (170) was awarded a pair of forfeits.

Cole Carman (145) and Kade Polich (182) were both able to pick up victories by pinfall, helping W-G claim wins in 31 of 42 matches.

W-G returns to action Saturday when the host the annual Denis Field Invitational. Colfax-Mingo, Martensdale-St. Marys, Roland-Story, Southeast Warren, West Central Valley and West Des Moines Valley will be on the mats with the Hawks, with wrestling to begin at 9 a.m.
