WOODWARD — The Woodward-Granger wrestling team honored 10 grapplers, two cheerleaders and a manager Tuesday, then capped senior recognition night by scoring a 45-31 win over Gilbert.

Baxter was also in action, but had only one wrestler in action and forfeited 12 weights. There was one double-forfeit, with W-G senior Dillon Fogarty scoring a pin, in 50 seconds, over Micah Kearns at 220 pounds in the only contested match.

Gilbert forfeited to Jacob Kepford at 285, Payton Tague at 126, Cale Pritchett at 170 and to Cody Fisher at 195, with W-G leading the 132-pound division open. The forfeits left seven matches to be decided on the mat, with the Hawks winning three times by pin and once by decision.

Fogarty opened the dual by pinning Jacob Torresi in 2 minutes, 43 seconds at 220, with Hunter Pierce pinning Gabriel Killian in 1:33 at 106 pounds while Austin Scharlau needed just 49 seconds to stick Juan Romero’s shoulders to the mat at 152 pounds.

The other Hawk victory came at 160, with Gabe Yingst posting a 10-6 decision over John Howell.

Woodward-Granger returns to action Saturday when they compete in the Interstate-35 Invitational.
