W-G’s Saak to continue football career

WOODWARD — Senior Josh Saak signed a letter on intent Wednesday that will send the W-G gridder to Evangel University, where he will continue his football career for head coach Chuck Hepola and the Crusaders.

Evangel University is home to 2,200 undergraduate students. Located in Springfield, Mo. the school is affiliated with the Assemblies of God and competes athletically at the NAIA I level. The Crusaders were 7-4 overall last year and 4-1 in conference play, winning the Heart Conference South Division.

Saak helped W-G finish 6-3 last year. He carried 37 times for 209 yards (5.6 ypc) and rushed for four touchdowns while catching seven passes for 133 yards (19 ypc) and three TDs. The linebacker had 24 solo and 20 assisted tackles, recorded three tackles for negative yardage and recovered a fumble.

A two-time All-District selection, he was named the Hawks’ “Mr. Hustle” last season while also winning the Drew Jacobsen “Give It All” award in recognition for his effort and devotion.
