MILO — Woodward-Granger loaded the bases in three consecutive innings but were able to score just once in suffering a 7-2 loss to host Southeast Warren in non-conference softball Friday.

The Warhawks (3-1) grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Alissa Smeltzer tripled and scored on a passed ball in the second to close the gap to 3-1.

W-G (0-3) received a one-out walk and stolen base from Emma Anderson, with a single from Maddi Danti cutting the Hawk deficit to 3-2. A Natalie Weaver double and Katelyn Scharlau walk jammed the bags, but eighth-grader Alivia Ruble recorded consecutive strikeouts to preserve the lead.

The guests loaded the bases with only one out in the fourth, but a ground ball forced one out at the plate and a grounder to the first baseman turned aside the attempted rally. A ground out with the bags juiced again in the fifth stranded another trio of runners.

The hosts were able to push three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth to swell their advantage to 6-2, with a final tally in the sixth capping the scoring.

Ruble allowed eight hits and survived seven walks in part by striking out 11 in earning the complete-game win.

Rian Jamison started and went 4-1/3 frames for W-G, yielding five runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks, with Brylee Bice allowing two runs (one earned) on a hit and two walks in 1-2/3 innings. Each struck out one.

Anderson had a single, two stolen bases and walked twice while scoring once, with Smeltzer tripling and scoring while Weaver poked a double. Katelyn Bandstra had two hits and a steal, Danti a RBI-hit, Scharlau a single and two walks, Kenzi Carrick a single and two walks and Jamison a walk.

W-G will play at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Centerville Invite today.
